I'm going to be a wet blanket here: Isn't it sorta easy to troll just about any old fetish site? Suicide Girls isn't exactly claiming to be a paragon of fairness. They just cater to people who're into what they sell. I'm not exactly shocked that their model application page's text can be picked apart easily.
Now excuse me while I go yell at those darn kids on my lawn.
I think the author is attempting to point out the hypocrisy of supporting "alternative beauty" while continuing to practice blatant forms of discrimination. Admittedly, I don't know much about the site, but "what they sell" seems to be hot women of an "alternative" nature. On the surface, there seems no reason to discriminate against hot "alternative" pre-operative trans women unless they're showing genitals over there. (Are they? I can't tell from my quick site perusal.) So... why the discrimination? Why no trans girls? The message *I* am hearing is the one I hear all the time from sites like these... "Trans girls aren't allowed because being trans is icky, and oh, btw, you're really men and that would, like, totally gross out our readers if they found out."
Yeah, fuck that shit. You're probably right that there's a lot of other sites with problematic transphobic positions like this. I suppose I just liked this particular calling out of transphobia.
What they're doing at SG, why, and all that... I have no idea, really, and scarcely care. It's just nice seeing one of my kin kicking ass with such a great response.
I didn't know they were transphobic. I'd assumed they just weren't into selling "trans" because it's icky, just like they wouldn't sell cisgender MILFs, because that's icky, too.
What they sell appears to be a *very* mainstream sort of "alternate" anyway. They had a booth at ComicCon and seem to favor the Betty Page with Tattoos look.
You know, I won't even scoff at how "edgy" they are. It'd be like poking fun at Hot Topic.
It's transphobic to argue that "women" doesn't include "trans women." I don't know the site, but I don't see any reason why women that look like the type they're after should be turned away on the basis of happening to be a pre-operative transsexual.
Also... It's a bit different because "MILFs" aren't an oppressed minority group. When your life is seen by many/most people as little more than the punchline on a Saturday Night Live sketch, it really makes it hard to get a job, keep a home, or hell, stay alive. It makes every slight like this sting that much more, and that much more dangerous.
As I said, I really don't know anything further about SuicideGirls. Your description of them seems apt. But when I see my sistren and brethren calling out transphobia, I stand with them. I figure that transfolk know what they're talking about better than cisfolk in situations like these.
