Two minecraft videos I made.

I love the part in the second one when the zombie kills me. I jump nearly a mile.

These are great videos! Thanks!

I think that the mob spawning rules have changed in the Halloween update, and no place is safe (except for a small radius right around you), lit or not.

Zombies and Creepers and all can spawn inside your cabin, your castle, anywhere now. (That explains the zombie you saw.)

Supposedly the spawn rate is a formula based on light level and depth (I think also some areas just seem to spawn a lot more than others, so there might be a third factor in there.) My base was reasonably lit before the update, and then I had a Creeper spawn about halfway down. After that I did a "torch run" in my own base, running around like mad trying to get to the darker spots before the spawns did.

At this point my base is what I'd call "ludicrously well-lit"; since then I haven't seen any monsters spawn, with the exception of the very bottom. I'm not sure what exactly the formula is, or at least whether I'd basically have to have a torch on every square down there in order to ensure mobs don't spawn.

Oh, thanks [livejournal.com profile] viesti! I hope that's it. That's an algorithm that I can get behind. (Torches still keep mobs from spawning nearby, but their effective radius decreases the deeper you go.)

I was above ground when a skeleton riding a spider spawned inside my lit home. (Although the torches were over four squares from each other.) It made me fear torches didn't matter anymore.

I've gotten fairly heavily into it, but got into the habit of building houses made of floating trees... which means they take extra long to build. If you get whitelisted to the malmipro server, I can let you explore what I've made! *grins*

Actually, I'd like a chance to play with you, but I don't think I got a reply when I said I'd like to try on your server.

We're currently playing single player while we wait for multiplayer to get less sucky and more interesting. However, I *am* hosting a server that you could join, if you like. Nobody is on it, though.
