So... with the states whose results make them look pretty much guaranteed to go towards Obama combined with Oregon, California, and Hawaii which are predicted to go to Obama... Obama has only to get 5 more electoral votes, which he could easily get from any of Washington, Colorado, Nevada, Virgina, or Iowa, all of which were already leaning towards Obama in yesterday's polls.

This race isn't over yet, but McCain will have to all FOUR of those states in order to win at this point, and that's NOT very likely at all. Furthermore, he'd have to win all of the battleground states that remain, specifically Missouri, Indiana, North Carolina, AND Florida.

Obama has this election. It's time for McCain to pack up and go home.

UPDATE: And he has Iowa. Obama has won, the presidential election is over.

This is combining information from CNN and MSNBC.

If only we didn't have CA's various problematic ballot initiatives to worry about, Prop 8 first and foremost. I can't feel relief until that's settled.

Yeah. That's the question I'm REALLY nervous about. What's going to happen with that?

I'd be careful assuming anything this early...but...it's looking good for Obama with Ohio falling his way.

This is based on MSNBC's evaluation.

Basically, based on current results coming in, Obama is predicted to receive 206 electoral votes. If we add in California, Hawaii, and Oregon, that's 272 votes. He only needs 270 to win. It's over.

The Beeb (BBC) also identify Iowa as one of those key states and although not saying he's won that the result there is a good indication of the overall one. I would hate to make a definitive statement now because the fates love to play with us but it's looking good!

(following the results closely with my iPhone from bed here in the UK)
