Everytime I eat avocado in quantity... it makes me sick to my stomach for the rest of the day... I even got cramps and other reactions to it.

Ugh.

I think I'm going to start actively avoiding avocado. Ugh.

If you get cramps and other things, is it possible that you're allergic to it?

In any case avocado's full of potassium, which is something folks on spiro should avoid.

*nods* I wasn't aware of that, actually...

You do know that avacado is one of the highest potassium bearing foods you can find, right?

That would explain the really painful leg cramp I had afterwards. [livejournal.com profile] ellie_l said this would happen, and that the solution was to eat salty things.

It worked.

*noddles* Glad you caught it then.
There's a pdf I downloaded some time back that helped with the reminder (it's only one page) located here (www.stronghealth.com/services/primarycare/pdf/potasiumrestrict.pdf -).

Limit yourself to 1/4 of an avocado. It is so nutritious, but very high in fat, even though the fats are healthy. If you are getting cramps, it's probably too much of it for your body. An allergy to a foods shows up in congestion, nausea, hives, swelling/inflammation, and for serious ones, which you don't have, anaphylaxis.

Are you vegetarian, or vegan? Either way, reading Becoming Vegan is a good idea. I think she might also have Becoming Vegetarian. Becoming Vegan is the best book on nutrition I've ever read and not just for vegan nutrition. I'm a bit of a nutition freak, so this is saying something. :o)

Hope you feel better now.

Nichole
