Maybe its because I'm so damn sick of hearing people around me speak in foreign languages, but I dont buy the logic in that second one. There are proposals to make the official language of the United States English. The US was founded by English immigrants and their descendants. If this was "The Cherokee nation" I could buy that cartoon. It is not. The United States is a vast land, as well. The Cherokees were not spread from coast to coast, there were hundreds of nations here. They were conquered by America. America was founded by the English. If another country came in here and conquered us, perhaps English would be a silly language to have as a national language.

Bah. I am so sick of hearing Russian all day, I am turning into a Republican or something

*shrugs* I live in a place where you hear other languages constantly. I was standing in line at Walgreens and the cashier was speaking Spanish with a customer, the couple behind me was speaking Chinese with each other, and someone else was speaking English.

I don't see the big deal, really.
